Acai Bowl recipe

Being in love with Hawaii means being in love with a lot of things: the ocean, lush (dense) forrests, waterfalls,, volcanos, fruit - the list goes on. But one thing that I am so obsessed with and inspired by in Hawaii is acai bowls. Unfortunately when you love them so much they can add up quick because here in Colorado they're around $12 a piece - and I seriously could eat one everyday! So - with a Vitamix and some key ingredients on hand, I realized they're super affordable to make at home and I love not having to leave the house to get my favorite food!  I even upped the anti by ordering some of my favorite granola from Hawaii. I can't explain what it is but Island Vintage is seriously so good - it's worth the $11 price tag.

I guess why these are so popular in Hawaii is because you have so much fresh fruit and local honey on hand that it's easy to create these once you have the base made. You can make these with either frozen packets from the freezer section or with powder, almond milk, a banana and ice. I go the powder route and use this brand because then you can really customize what goes into it. Some of those packets are also sweetened - which is no bueno if you're trying to eat less refined sugar.

To make this bowl - follow the instructions on the back of the Acai powder bag. Top with hemp seeds, shredded coconut, kiwi, banana and strawberry. If you want to go the extra route and getting the wooden bowl (which adds a great touch to the whole experience) I recommend this one from Sur la table.

Enjoy Acai lovers!
